Good To Know: July 2022 🧑💻
A monthly round-up of things happening in hiring, D&I, and humanity.
Hey Everyone,
Welcome to Good to Know! If you are new here, I publish Good to Know on the last Tuesday of every month.
Unlike most posts, Good to Know is a round-up of things going on in hiring, D&I, and humanity with some of my comments. Its purpose is to showcase some of the great work others do and learn from them.
Stay Cool 😎

🔦The Signals We Send🔦 - How anti-remote managers are undermining their own diversity and inclusion efforts.
Getting it Wrong - That time when I was 100% wrong about who I would hire.
🤿 Deepening the Pool 🤿 - Thinking like a product person can improve your hiring.
🔧 What going on with the trades? 🔧

Spoiler: it’s not because people don’t want to work anymore. It’s because they can make much, much more on their own.

Speaking of “nobody wants to work anymore”
Paul Fairie pulled together a history of people saying that “no one wants to work anymore” it the media - it goes back to 1894.
👵But why is the Retirement Party over?👵
Prof G is wrong. Retirees are twice as likely to be bored than they are to care about inflation or their stock portfolios. Maybe the only people who want to work are retirees?
